DNJ, the full name is 1-deoxynojirimycin, is a natural alkaloid found in Morus alba L. The molecular weight is 163.7. As a potent inhibitor of glucose metabolism enzymes (such as α-glucosidase, hexokinase, glucuronidase and glycogen phosphatase), DNJ can significantly delay the degradation of polysaccharides. It can reduce the peak of postprandial blood glucose and stabilize fasting blood glucose. In addition, DNJ can also increase insulin sensitivity and improve insulin resistance.
