Lactobacillus salivarius, formally named Ligilactobacillus salivarius, is a Gram‑positive facultative anaerobic bacterium formerly classified under the genus Lactobacillus. It was first isolated from human saliva, hence its common name. As one of the autochthonous microflora in the human digestive tract and oral cavity, it delivers multiple physiological functions, including balancing intestinal microbiota, boosting immune response and improving oral health.
Ligilactobacillus salivarius modulates intestinal microbiota balance through competitive inhibition and production of organic acids such as lactic acid, suppressing the growth of harmful pathogenic bacteria.
Specific strains of Ligilactobacillus salivarius (e.g. PM A0006) exhibit notable immunomodulatory effects. It stimulates immune cells to secrete cytokines and regulates Th1/Th2 immune balance.
As an autochthonous microflora of the oral cavity, Ligilactobacillus salivarius plays a vital role in oral health.
Ligilactobacillus salivarius helps delay intestinal aging.
Oral probiotic lozenges, dietary supplements (capsules, sachets, compressed candies), fermented dairy products, multi‑strain probiotic formulations, functional solid beverages.
