Fucoidan is a marine complex polysaccharide substance composed of fucose containing sulfuric acid. The content of algal polysaccharide in brown algae is very small, about 0.1% in fresh kelp and about 1% in dry kelp, which makes it a highly valuable algal active substance.
Fucoidan is produced by brown algae to protect themselves in harsh environments. When brown algae is exposed to direct sunlight, the algal polysaccharide prevents it from drying out, acting as an effective moisturizer. Simultaneously, it works to prevent bacteria from invading injured tissue, boosting antibacterial immunity.
