Ergothioneine (EGT, L-Ergothioneine, CAS: 497-30-3) is a rare, naturally occurring sulfur-containing amino acid derived from histidine. It is mainly produced by mushrooms, actinobacteria, and cyanobacteria; humans cannot synthesize it and must obtain it from diet or supplements. As a stable, high-potency antioxidant, it is widely used in cosmetics, food, and health supplements.
