Product Description

Product Description

pepsin 1
Pepsin is a digestive protease secreted by gastric chief cells in the stomach. These cells secrete pepsinogen, which is then converted into pepsin when activated by gastric acid or existing pepsin. Pepsin is not produced directly by the cells.
Its function is to break down dietary proteins into small peptide fragments. Some proteins are further decomposed into amino acids such as tyrosine and phenylalanine.
★ Product Features
1 Pepsin is an endopeptidase with strong protein-digesting ability.
2 Mainly extracted from porcine gastric mucosa; meets food-grade and pharmaceutical-grade standards.

Application of Pepsin

Pharmaceutical Industry
Used in health products and medications to assist protein digestion, relieve indigestion, and improve nutrient absorption.
Food Industry
Applied in protein hydrolysis, cheese production, prepared meat products, and seafood processing to enhance flavor and texture.
Health & Nutritional Supplements
Used in dietary supplements to support gastrointestinal function and promote efficient protein breakdown.

Storage STORED HUMIDITY PROTECTED (RH LESS THAN 60) AT TEMPERATURE BELOW 25℃
Shelf Life 1 Year when Properly Stored

Conditions of Use

  • The optimal working pH for pepsin is 1.5–5.0. In neutral or alkaline solutions, pepsin will denature and lose its activity.
  • Recommended conditions for protein hydrolysis: dosage 5–15 U/g of dry protein, hydrolysis temperature 40–50 °C, hydrolysis time 2–4 hours, pH 2.0–2.5.
  • For pepsin tablets, the suggested activity is 100–300 U per tablet.
  • For digestive enzyme products, the recommended enzyme activity is 50–100 U per serving.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place away from light.
Recommended storage temperature: below 0 °C.
Enzyme activity may decrease to varying degrees if stored for an excessively long time or under unfavorable conditions. If temperature or humidity is too high, a proper increase in dosage is advised during application.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q What is pepsin and where does it come from?
Pepsin is a digestive protease secreted by gastric chief cells in the stomach. It is activated from its precursor pepsinogen by gastric acid or existing pepsin. Commercially, it is mainly extracted from porcine gastric mucosa and is available in food-grade and pharmaceutical-grade forms.
Q What is the optimal pH range for pepsin activity?
The optimal working pH for pepsin is 1.5–5.0. Outside this range—particularly in neutral or alkaline conditions—pepsin will denature and lose its enzymatic activity. For protein hydrolysis, a pH of 2.0–2.5 is recommended.
Q What are the recommended conditions for protein hydrolysis using pepsin?
For optimal protein hydrolysis, use a dosage of 5–15 U/g of dry protein, maintain a hydrolysis temperature of 40–50 °C, a hydrolysis time of 2–4 hours, and a pH of 2.0–2.5.
Q How should pepsin be stored to maintain its activity?
Pepsin should be stored in a cool, dry place away from light, with a recommended storage temperature below 0 °C. Storing it for an excessively long time or under high-temperature and high-humidity conditions may reduce enzyme activity. If such conditions occur, an increase in dosage during application is advised.
Q What industries use pepsin and for what purposes?
Pepsin is widely used across multiple industries: in the pharmaceutical industry for digestive aids and indigestion relief; in the food industry for protein hydrolysis, cheese production, and meat/seafood processing; and in health and nutritional supplements to support gastrointestinal function and protein breakdown.
Q What packaging and shipping options are available?
Pepsin is available in 1 kg bags (double plastic + aluminum foil inside) or 10 kg / 25 kg+ drums and cartons. Shipping options include EMS, DHL, UPS, and FedEx for small orders (1–25 kg, 3–7 days door-to-door), air freight for medium to large orders, and sea freight for quantities over 100 kg (10–35 days, door to port).
