Carbopol Powder, also referred to as Carbomer or Carboxypolymethylene, is a general term for synthetic high-molecular-weight acrylic acid polymers. It acts as thickener, dispersant, suspending agent and emulsifier widely applied in pharmaceutical and cosmetic formulations. Its variants include acrylic acid homopolymers crosslinked with pentaerythritol allyl ether, sucrose allyl ether or propylene allyl ether.
Carbomer products are supplied as light, fluffy white powders. They feature strong water absorption and water retention capacity, and can swell to multiple times their original volume after absorbing water.
Different Carbomer grades such as 910, 934, 940, 941 and 934P represent differences in molecular weight and polymer composition. A full series of Carbomer powders is available in stock.
Carbomer 940 is used for topical formulations and is suitable for the preparation of gels, creams, and coupling agents. Carbomer 380 and cross-linked acrylic resins, alongside series products of these cross-linked polyacrylic acids, are widely used in topical lotions, creams, and gels.
In a neutral environment, the Carbomer 380 system provides an excellent gel matrix with a crystal-clear appearance and a pleasant sensory touch. Therefore, Carbomer 380 is highly suitable for formulation preparations such as creams, gels, and hand sanitizers.
